The bishops of India have drafted guidelines on disciplining priests who have abused children but will not make the guidelines public until the Vatican approves them, The Times of India reports.

“While the general consensus at the conference was to report any suspected case of child sex abuse to the police, measures like defrocking and expulsion will be thought of only if the accused is convicted by a court,” said Father Babu Joseph Karakombil, spokesman for the bishops’ conference.
