Irish lawmakers call papal nuncio to testify on Vatican response to Murphy commission

Irish lawmakers call papal nuncio to testify on Vatican response to Murphy commission

Archbishop Giuseppe Leanza, the apostolic nuncio in Ireland, has been called to appear before the foreign-affairs committee of the Irish parliament, to answer questions about the Vatican's response to the Murphy commission investigation of sex-abuse cases in the Dublin archdiocese. If he appears before the committee-- which he is not obligated to do-- the nuncio will be asked why the Vatican did not respond directly to queries from the Murphy commission. The Vatican had replied to the queries by saying that the Murphy commission should observe standard diplomatic protocol, routing any requests for information through the Irish foreign ministry.
